This process of learning to be back in the arms of my first love, the Sea. Has been glorious. The Adrenaline junkie in me is totally satisfied. (Which is not easy to do). And my strong sense of needing beauty in my life daily is also taken care of. Being in the water in the evenings when the light gets all soft and fills my eyes with multiple shades of pink and blue is amazing. Coming up through the water, you can see the colors of the sky. And as you break through the surface, there is a moment of confusion as your brain desperately tries to keep up with the colors, light and immense beauty.
I have always collected Seashells, as long as I can remember. And as I began this journey. I would pick up a Shell as I was heading back. This is a sample of my ever growing collection of Surf Shells.
Each individual Shell is literally a gift from the Sea. I find it so interesting that I find some that I’ve never even seen on our shores before.
Some mark major events, such as surviving out in big surf again. Learning to get over the waves, so you don’t get caught. Negotiating the “Line-up”. And of course, standing up! The day I finally stood up and rode waves again. I came out of the water and found this Barnacle. I loved it instantly, as it looked like a Volcano and so of course I felt as though this gift was from Pele herself.
I will treasure this one for many years. Others I will string on necklaces, or use in my jars of Coconut oil as scoops. All will be incorporated into my life as reminders of my love. To remember all these precious moments in time. And to have words to accompany my images. Stories to go with my Talismans. Do you have objects of power that you hold precious? How do you honor them?
Beautiful
Love your descriptive wording. I feel like I’m there with you. You are always in my heart.
Thank you! And love you!❤️
Great idea to use shells as scoops ?
I use them in my Coconut oil.?
Love this story. Made me reflect on my moments of shell collecting and how it’s always put me at peace. Something about the harshness of the sea that frightens me but seeing these little bits of treasures and imagining their journey and how it made its way to our path calms me. Thanks for sharing your gifts.
❤️ I’m feeling another beach party coming on!
Loved this! It was beautiful & refreshing. Coming from a tropical, coastal country, the sea is everything to us. Collecting shells & or sand dollars was always & continues to be a humbling reminder, that like you said, this beautiful, vast, powerful force that’s the ocean, bestows gifts to me; that speak, remind & encourage me for a lifetime. Now I do it with my Kiddo’s, who are natural water babies all by themselves. Mahalo for sharing this beautiful, discriprive journey❤️?
I love that your introducing the next generation to our loves!❤️
I love the descriptions, makes me feel like I’m there again. Your love of the water came from the stroller I would push along the miles of beach and sun. You never cared if you were covered with sand. I think it even started way before that……otherwise your name would have been something other than SHELL!!!…coincidence….I think NOT! Love you!
❤️❤️❤️
